You can recognize a fake profile, or when someone is trying to scam you, in a few ways.

  • The profile picture clearly isn’t the person, such as a stock image or a celebrity
  • They request to move communication to a different app, or ask for your email and phone number
  • Messages are oddly worded
  • The member acts very flattering and obsessive early on
  • They share a dramatic, sad story or a fake emergency to ask for money

If something feels off, trust your instincts, even if you’ve already fallen for the scam. Scammers can be very convincing, and they take advantage of kind people. There is nothing to be ashamed of! Cut off contact immediately and tap More on the chat and/or their profile, and select Report, even if you’re not 100% certain they’re a scammer. Our team will review the profile and remove them if they are suspicious.
