Trying something new can feel awkward at first. So we've gathered a few tips to help you get started with Meet5 and have a confident start on the app!
Step 1: Complete your profile
A complete profile helps you meet new people faster. It's the foundation for getting to know others and joining activities.
The profile picture: The first thing people see is your profile picture, so it's important to choose a good one! Make sure it's a recent photo, not pixellated, blurry, or over-edited. Avoid using a group photo. This clear visibility will help people recognize you at an activity.
You're welcome to add more than one photo if you'd like people to get a better sense of who you are, such as adding a picture of your pet. Just make sure the first image is you.
The profile description: Use the profile description to provide further information about yourself. You can decide how long you want this text to be. Share something about your hobbies, your favorite quote, or any other fun fact.
Tags/Keywords: Tags are a way to share your hobbies, interests, and any other things about yourself. You can choose up to 20 tags. Tags let members search, filter, and invite other members to activities based on those tags. For example, if you select the tag hiking, you will be invited to hikes more often than if you didn't. You can either select from the pre-made tags or come up with your own.
Step 2: The Newcomer's Call
Once a month, a Meet5 team member hosts a Zoom meeting and guides you through the app, its most important features, and tells you more about the community. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions. The meeting usually takes between 30-60 minutes and is attended by many members from different areas.
The exact date and time vary each month, and the Zoom link is shared in the group chat ahead of the call. You can also find the activity in the app: on the activity tab, tap the magnifying glass and search for "Newcomer Call."
The Newcomer's Call isn't a requirement; you're welcome to skip this step or come back to it later once you're a more experienced member.
Step 3: Join your first activity
Have you completed your profile and, optionally, attended a Newcomer's Call? Now it's time to find an activity that you like. There are two options for you to join an activity: either join an activity under "For you" and "Invitations," or scroll through the activity page overview and join one that interests you. After you join the activity, you'll get access to the group chat, where you can communicate with other participants and discuss important arrangements.
Looking for a low-pressure way to ease in? Keep an eye out for regular, recurring monthlies in your area, these are a great option for your first activity since they tend to have a relaxed, welcoming vibe similar to a regulars' table. Check the activity overview page in your area to see what's available.
Step 4: Have fun and contribute to the community
After you have joined and attended a few activities, try creating your own. You don't have to limit yourself. You can decide if you want to hike, dine out, play mini golf, or just relax at a picnic. It is easy and fun to create your own activity. If you are still uncertain, you can find a guide here.
